YOUTUBE · CHOOSING A TOOL

Which YouTube language tool fits the way you want to practise?

Understand a video, repeat its lines, or talk about what you just watched? Vila, Language Reactor, Trancy and Migaku support different learning routines. Start with the practice you want, then compare features and costs.

How do the four tools support your practice?

Here, a “video speaking lesson” means a complete workflow: prepare target expressions from a selection, practise in conversation and receive a report. “Unconfirmed” means insufficient public detail, not absence of the feature. Select a tool name for sources.

On narrow screens, scroll the table sideways. Keyboard users can focus the table region and use the arrow keys.

THE VILA LESSON FLOW

Use an expression from the video in an answer of your own

If you understand some of the captions but struggle to speak, Vila brings your selected content into a lesson in the same sidebar. There is no need to copy captions or write a chat prompt.

  1. Choose a familiar section

Open a video with captions in your learning language, then choose a chapter or caption range.

  2. Know what you will practise

Choose a duration and mode. To ease into speaking, listen to a model and repeat it first.

  3. Use it in conversation

Make the sentence your own after repeating, or start a free conversation. The coach follows up and offers keywords or sentence starters.

  4. Finish with feedback

Review expression feedback and revisit saved words in their original clips. Saved words are also highlighted in other videos.

Vila currently has no word-by-word or phoneme-level pronunciation score. You need desktop Chrome, readable captions, available speaking credits and a microphone. Network conditions affect response times; a hosted service restart may require preparing the lesson again.

What do the free and paid options include?

Vila offers one-time usage packs and monthly subscriptions; competitors show monthly plans displayed when checked. Vila pricing was updated on 11 September 2026. Annual billing, offers, currencies, taxes and final charges depend on checkout.

Vila

Learning credits · Regular packs from US$4.99

Packs last 12 months from receipt and do not renew automatically. Speaking and text analysis share credits, with no fixed allowance of speaking minutes or video hours.

Monthly Standard costs US$9.99 for 400 credits; Plus costs US$19.99 for 900 credits. Plans renew automatically each month. Credits expire at the end of the billing period without rollover; cancelling renewal preserves unexpired credits for that period.

Questions to ask before choosing

How should I choose for English, Korean or French speaking practice?

Explore Vila if you want to practise expressing yourself about a video you just watched. Explore Trancy for repetition, conversation scenarios or speech assessment. A language listed by a product does not mean that every assessment, voice or subtitle feature covers it. Check the target language, available captions and relevant paid features first.

Do free dual subtitles mean free speaking practice with a coach?

Not necessarily. Basic subtitles, lookup and local review are free; coached speaking and text analysis share paid credits. Choose a one-time pack or monthly subscription. The first-purchase pack is US$1.99 for 100 credits, with no free trial for these paid features. Purchases require an extension version that supports AI credits; see the pricing and account pages for access and eligibility.

Does “unconfirmed” mean another tool lacks a feature?

No. It means the official pages reviewed did not provide enough evidence for that specific workflow as of the check date. It is not a finding that the feature is unsupported. Chat, shadowing, speech assessment and video-selected lessons with goals and reports should be checked separately.
