What can a Vila speaking lesson do?

  • Prepare a lesson from your clip.Vila reads the selected captions and prepares expressions to practise. You do not need to copy a transcript, write a prompt or explain the video to another chat tool.
  • Let you talk back in real time. The coach asks about the video and follows up on your answers. Speak while the coach is talking to interrupt, or adjust its speaking speed.
  • Give the conversation a learning goal.Start with a short answer, explain an idea and try the expression in your own situation. Get keywords, sentence starters or examples when stuck.
  • Show what to work on next. The report reviews expression use, where you needed help and a next practice goal. It is saved locally by default.

Get started by repeating after the coach

Choose free conversation or guided repetition. For a target sentence from the video, guided practice has three steps:

  1. Listen to the coach model the target sentence.
  2. Repeat it with the current example visible.
  3. Express your own idea using it in your own context.

The interface shows three-step progress and can suggest more natural wording. Repetition checks key-word coverage in the transcript, not sound quality. Vila does not score pronunciation, accent or individual phonemes.

From choosing a clip to finishing a lesson

  1. Choose a section of the video

Open a YouTube video with captions in your learning language and select Speaking in Vila, then choose a chapter or clip. To focus on one sentence, choose Practise this sentence on the current caption while watching or on a sentence in Saved; Vila prepares a three-minute guided-repetition lesson.

  2. Choose a duration and prepare your expressions

Practise one expression in 3 minutes, or three in a 12-minute lesson. Vila prepares the lesson from the selected captions and pauses the video when you start. Available speaking credits and microphone permission are required.

  3. Answer, follow up and make it personal

The coach begins with the video topic, helps you use the target expressions and invites you to relate them to your own life. Start with a short answer; you do not have to summarise the whole video. Hints help you keep going.

  4. Review the result and choose your next challenge

See which expressions needed hints, which you used independently and specific suggestions to improve. Next time, choose a different clip or start a new lesson around the same content.

Speaking after YouTube: general AI voice or Vila?

If you enjoy choosing topics and arranging your own practice, keep using a familiar AI voice tool. If you want help finding worthwhile videos and connecting listening, saving, speaking and feedback, consider Vila.

No video in mind? Start with Discover

You do not need to find a YouTube link first. Vila’s Discover offers curated videos and topic collections. When you have a learning goal that needs material, it can recommend related videos. Pick an interesting topic, understand a short passage and use its expressions in your own conversation.

The English catalog can show unfamiliar-word density based on your chosen vocabulary level to help compare difficulty. This is a selection aid, not a measured listening score; coverage differs in other language catalogs.

Coach feedback

You used make time for to explain what you want to do, then added a concrete plan. Next, try using it to talk about exercise, family or work.

Each lesson develops from your chosen video and your answers. Follow a specific video in the YouTube speaking guide.

Which languages can I practise?

All learning languages supported by Vila, including English, French, Korean and Chinese, support speaking practice with your personal coach. Choose your learning and assistance languages in the extension and a video with the corresponding captions. The extension interface supports Simplified Chinese, English, French and Korean, following the assistance language selected in the extension. Choose different learning and assistance languages. Changing the website language does not change your extension settings.

Questions about conversation and feedback

Can I interrupt, pause or change the coach’s speed?

Yes. Speaking while the coach is talking interrupts its audio so it can process your answer. You can adjust its speed. Pausing closes the microphone and voice connection; paused or disconnected time does not use managed speaking minutes. An active managed lesson needs to be prepared again if the service restarts.

Does Vila score pronunciation?

No. Vila focuses on helping you express your ideas and keep a conversation going. Talk with your coach in real time: it follows up on what you say, offers hints when you get stuck and suggests more natural wording. You get help with what to say next, rather than a pronunciation score.

Who is Vila speaking practice for?

Learners who enjoy real videos, understand some of the content and want to practise expressing themselves. Start with a short, familiar clip. If most captions are unfamiliar, look up words and replay the clip before beginning a lesson.

Can I use it on my phone?

Vila currently runs in desktop Chrome. You need access to YouTube and readable captions in your learning language. Make sure you have speaking credits available and grant microphone permission before speaking.

Is my conversation saved?

The necessary lesson content, transcripts and live audio are sent to your selected AI service; managed mode forwards them through Vila. Vila does not save raw microphone audio, and reports are local by default. See the privacy policy.
